An Alternating Air Overlay That Sets Itself Up
The Cobalt AirTec 5 Alternating Air Mattress Overlay is a 13cm air overlay that sits on top of an existing mattress or foam underlay. Its air cells take turns to inflate and deflate, and the SmartSense pump adjusts the pressure to the weight of the person in bed, so there are no weight dials to set.
Dispatched from our Australian supplier's NSW warehouse, usually within 2-7 business days.
Why an Overlay Is a Practical Choice
If the bed already has a good foam mattress, an overlay is the simpler way to add alternating air. You lay the AirTec 5 on top, strap it on at the corners and plug in the pump. It suits home care, aged care and disability settings, and it packs into its carry bag when it's not in use.
Because it adds 13cm to the height of the bed, some families pair it with a thin foam underlay instead of a full mattress to keep the sleeping surface lower.
Features
- SmartSense automatic pump. Adjusts cell pressure to body weight, with manual fine adjustment of 5mmHg either way.
- 1-in-2 (A+B) alternating cycle. Choose a 10, 15, 20 or 25 minute cycle.
- Static mode. Holds every cell at even pressure while care is given, then returns to alternating after 20 minutes.
- Seat inflate mode. Adds pressure through the overlay for extra support around the lower back when sitting up in bed.
- Max inflation. Quickly firms up every cell to its highest pressure.
- Whisper-quiet pump. Runs at under 19dB.
- Alarms you can see and hear. Low pressure, power failure and a service alarm, plus an automatic panel lock.
- Rapid CPR release. A pull tab deflates the overlay quickly in an emergency.
- Quick-connect hoses with a transport cover. Keeps the overlay inflated if you need to move it.
- Zip-around stretch cover. 2-way stretch nylon TPU that zips right off for cleaning.
- Elastic corner straps and cable keeper. Holds the overlay on the mattress and keeps the power lead off the floor.
- Carry bag included. Easy to store or take between homes.
Is the AirTec 5 Right for You?
It usually suits you if you:
- are caring for someone who spends long periods in bed and already has a good foam mattress
- want an alternating air system that's easy to set up and move
- want a pump that sets the pressure by itself
Good to know before you order:
- Cobalt rates the AirTec 5 for people at low to medium risk of pressure injury. We recommend speaking with your healthcare provider about which level is right.
- It's designed for users from 40kg to 160kg.
- It goes on top of a mattress or underlay, not straight onto a bed base.
- It adds 13cm to the bed height, so check bed rails still sit high enough above the sleeping surface.
- It needs a power point near the bed for the pump.
