Stretchy, skin-friendly tape that holds dressings and protects skin you tape often
Fixomull Stretch is a white, self-adhesive non-woven tape that stretches across its width, so it moves with joints and awkward contours. Leukoplast (Essity, formerly BSN medical) makes it for wide-area fixation of wound dressings, tubes and devices. Therapists also use it as an underwrap under rigid strapping. It's latex free and comes in 10m rolls, 5cm or 10cm wide, on split backing paper.
Holds firm, moves with the body
Cut a piece to the shape you need, peel the backing and smooth it on. Because it stretches across its width, it suits shoulders, knees and other areas that move a lot. It's permeable to air and water vapour, so the skin can breathe, and it's radiotransparent, so it doesn't need to come off for X-rays.
As an underwrap, it goes on first and rigid tape such as Leukotape P goes over the top. That helps when someone is taped again and again. It's also used for window facing on moist wound dressings so the edges don't roll up.
What's in Fixomull Stretch
- Cut. Cut the length you need with clean, sharp scissors so the edges don't fray. The printed grid on the backing helps you cut straight.
- Peel half. Lay it on a flat surface and peel off one half of the backing paper.
- Apply. Place it centrally over the dressing, touching only the backing and the outer side, then peel off the rest of the backing.
- Smooth. Smooth it out with light pressure and no tension. Warming it between your palms first helps it stick.
Features
- Stretches across its width to suit joints and contoured, frequently moved areas.
- Highly adhesive yet kind to sensitive skin.
- Permeable to air and water vapour so the skin can breathe.
- Won't constrict or restrict blood flow when applied without tension.
- Chemically inert to rubber and plastics, so it suits securing tubes, catheters and devices as well as dressings.
- Radiotransparent, no need to remove it for X-rays.
- Split backing paper for easy, hygienic application.
- Latex free.
Is Fixomull Stretch right for you?
- Usually suits: securing wound dressings, tubes, catheters and devices, especially over joints and contoured areas, and as an underwrap for people who are taped often.
- Other listed uses: window facing on moist wound dressings so the edges don't roll up, and as a dressing for minor burns.
- Latex free: yes.
- Not included: dressings and rigid tape such as Leukotape P are sold separately.
Always follow the instructions and safety information supplied with the product, and talk to your healthcare provider about whether it's right for you and how to use it.
Choosing the right width
Both rolls are the same Fixomull Stretch tape and both are 10m long. Only the width changes, so choose by the area you need to cover. Leave a good margin around a dressing so the edges hold.
