Soft, conformable fixation for dressings, tubes and catheters
Hypafix Non-Woven Dressing Retention Tape is a self-adhesive white polyester fabric that fixes dressings quickly and securely. Leukoplast (Essity, formerly BSN medical) makes it for wide-area fixation. It covers the whole dressing and stretches across its width to shape around joints and awkward contours, so the person can keep moving. It comes in 10m rolls, 5cm or 10cm wide, on split backing paper.
Holds the dressing, lets the skin breathe
Cut a piece to size, peel the backing and smooth it over the dressing. Hypafix is permeable to air and water vapour, which helps reduce the risk of maceration, and it's radiotransparent, so it doesn't need to come off for X-rays or radiotherapy. Because it covers the entire dressing, it also reduces the risk of casual contamination.
What's in Hypafix
How to apply it
- Cut. Cut the length you need with clean, sharp scissors so the edges don't fray. Leave a good fixation edge: at least 2cm beyond the edge of the wound dressing is recommended.
- Peel half. Lay it on a flat surface and peel off one half of the backing paper.
- Apply. Place it centrally over the dressing, touching only the backing and the outer side, then peel off the rest of the backing.
- Smooth. Smooth it out with light pressure and no tension. Warming it between your palms first helps it stick.
Features
- Moves with joints. It stretches across its width, so joints can be dressed without limiting movement.
- Full coverage of the dressing, which reduces the risk of casual contamination.
- Permeable to air and water vapour so the skin can breathe.
- Won't constrict or restrict blood flow when applied without tension.
- Chemically inert to rubber and plastics, so it suits securing tubes, catheters and devices as well as dressings.
- Radiotransparent, no need to remove it for X-rays or radiotherapy.
- Hypoallergenic adhesive on split, quick-release backing paper.
- Latex free.

Always follow the instructions and safety information supplied with the product, and talk to your healthcare provider about whether it's right for you and how to use it.
Choosing the right width
Both rolls are 10m long and you cut Hypafix to size. Pick the width that covers the whole dressing with a good fixation edge: at least 2cm past the edge of the wound dressing is recommended.
