Calibrated grip strength testing with the Jamar Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer
The Jamar Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer is made for routine screening of grip strength and hand function. It gives physiotherapists, occupational therapists and certified hand therapists an easier way to track and document progress. It comes calibrated, with a dual-scale readout of isometric grip force up to 200 pounds or 90 kilograms, a peak-hold needle and a five-position adjustable handle.
Test, record and track progress
Set the handle to the right position, slip the strap over your client's wrist and ask for a firm squeeze. The needle holds the peak, you note the reading, and the next visit shows how far their grip has come. Between sessions it packs away in its carry case.
What's in the Jamar Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer
Adjustable. The handle adjusts to five grip positions, from 1-3/8" to 3-3/8" (3.5 to 8.6cm) in half-inch steps, to suit different hand sizes.
Dual scale. The dial shows grip force in pounds and kilograms, up to 200 pounds or 90 kilograms.
Peak hold. The peak-hold needle keeps the highest reading until you reset it with the knob, so recording is easy.
Ready to use. Supplied with a carry case, calibration certificate, owner's manual and warranty.

Is it the right dynamometer for you?
- Usually suits: physios, OTs and hand therapists screening grip strength and tracking progress who like a needle gauge with a peak hold.
- In the box: carry case, calibration certificate, attached manual, wrist strap and warranty.
- Also consider: the Jamar Plus+ Digital Hand Dynamometer for a digital readout, or the Jamar Smart Digital Hand Dynamometer to send results to a tablet app.
If you're unsure which assessment tool suits your practice, our team is happy to help you compare the options.
Choosing the right option
There's one model, and the handle adjusts to the hand in front of you, so there's no size to choose. Pick the Jamar readout that suits how you record results:
| Option | Readout | Choose it if |
| Hydraulic (this one) | Dual-scale needle gauge with peak hold | You like a needle gauge you read by eye |
| Plus+ Digital | Digital screen | You prefer a digital reading |
| Smart Digital | Sends results to a tablet app | You want results recorded in an app |
