Solid Rubber Threshold Ramp for Smooth, Safe Home Access
A raised door sill is a small thing until you are the one crossing it every day. It jolts the chair, catches the front castors, and turns a doorway you used to walk through into something you plan around. Our Rubber Threshold Ramp is a solid moulded wedge that sits against the sill and gives you a firm, slip-resistant slope to roll up instead of a lip to bump over. No fixings, no assembly, no drilling.
Built to Sit There and Take Daily Traffic
This is solid rubber, not a hollow shell, which is why it stays put under a powered scooter instead of skidding forward on the approach. The weight that makes the larger sizes heavy to move is the same weight that keeps them stable in use. It handles rain, sun and frost, so it works as an outdoor threshold ramp at a back door or patio slider just as well as it works inside.
- Heavy-Duty Solid Rubber: Rated to a Safe Working Load of 680kg, well clear of any chair, scooter and occupant combined.
- Slip-Resistant Surface: Textured tread that keeps grip wet or dry.
- No Installation: Position this portable access ramp and use it straight away. Lift it out when you need the doorway clear.
- Bevelled Edges: Smooth pickup for wheelchair castors, scooter wheels and walker feet.
- Weather-Resistant: Indoor or outdoor, which makes it a versatile wheelchair ramp for any doorway.
- Quiet Underfoot: Rubber absorbs the noise and shock a metal ramp transmits.
Will This Suit My Doorway?
This is a threshold ramp, not a step ramp. It bridges the raised sill in a doorway or the lip of a sliding door track. It is not designed for a step up to a porch, a landing or a kerb.
Two things decide whether it fits:
- Your sill height sets the size. Match your measured sill to the rise in the table below. A ramp lower than your sill leaves a lip you still have to bump over. A ramp taller than your sill leaves a drop on the far side, which is worse.
- The depth is floor space you have to give up. The wedge runs out from the sill onto the floor. The 10cm size takes 65.5cm of clear floor, which is a lot in a narrow hallway. Measure before you commit.
Be Realistic About the Gradient
These are compact wedges, so they are steep. Worked from the rise and depth of each size, the slopes run between roughly 1:6 and 1:8.4. For reference, AS 1428.1 sets 1:14 as the gradient for permanent public access ramps, so every size here is significantly steeper than that standard.
In practice that means the 2.5cm and 5cm sizes are comfortable for most users, including someone self-propelling a manual chair. The 7.6cm and 10cm sizes are short, steep climbs. They are fine for a powered chair or scooter with the torque to take them, and fine for a manual chair with an assistant pushing, but a user self-propelling unassisted will find them hard work. If the sill is that high and the user propels themselves, a longer folding or modular ramp is the safer product. Contact us and we will point you to one.
How to Measure Before You Buy
- Measure the sill height. Rest a tape measure flat on the floor beside the sill and measure straight up to the highest point. Measure the sill itself, not the door frame or the weather seal.
- Check both sides. Many doorways sit higher outside than inside. Take both figures and use the larger one.
- Measure your device width. Measure across the widest point, usually the wheels or armrests, and confirm it sits comfortably inside the ramp width in the table.
- Measure the floor run-off. Check the clear flat space in front of the sill. You need the full ramp depth plus enough room to line up straight before you approach.
- Check the ground outside. Soft lawn, loose gravel, or a path falling away from the house will change how the ramp sits. It needs firm, level footing.
Technical Details and Sizes
Every size is solid rubber with a slip-resistant surface, rated to a Safe Working Load of 680kg, and covered by a 1-year warranty.
| SKU | Rise (sill height it suits) | Width across doorway | Depth on floor | Approx. gradient | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RIHT70101 | 2.5cm | 110.5cm | 21cm | About 1:8.4 | 4.5kg |
| RIHT70102 | 5cm | 110.5cm | 41cm | About 1:8.2 | 11.9kg |
| RIHT70103 | 7.6cm | 90cm | 45cm | About 1:5.9 | 13.3kg |
| RIHT70104 | 10cm | 110.5cm | 65.5cm | About 1:6.6 | 24kg |
Note the 7.6cm size is 90cm wide, narrower than the other three. If you are replacing or matching an existing ramp, check that figure against your doorway.
