Where It Can and Can't Go

• It needs a flat floor and a flat ceiling between 2.13 and 2.90 m high.
• It can't go inside a shower or bathtub, on a floor that's often wet, on a loose rug, or on an angled, vaulted, suspended or panelled ceiling.
• Leave walking space all the way around the pole. Stander warns that placing it too close to a bed, wall or furniture could trap someone between them in a fall.
• Check it daily to make sure it's still tight and the floor around it is dry. If it moves when used, take it down and reinstall it.

Stander advises the pole isn't suitable for people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, or anyone who is restless, confused, sedated or frail. If you rent or live in a retirement village, check with your landlord or village manager before installing.
