A modular leg frame that fits each person, with the Kinetec Thomas Splint Leg Support

The Kinetec Thomas Splint Leg Support is the chrome-plated steel leg frame of Kinetec's modular Thomas Splint system. It comes in four lengths and pairs with four sizes of Thigh Hoop, so staff can build the right splint for each person. The thigh hoop joins the leg support with Kinetec's magnet system, so the splint goes together quickly without tools.

Build the splint to fit the leg

Instead of stocking fixed splints, you pick a leg support length and a thigh hoop width for each person, then join them at the bedside. The same frame works on the left or right leg: flip it over and connect the thigh hoop with the magnets. The chrome-plated steel is durable and easy to clean.

What's in the Kinetec Thomas Splint system

The leg support is one part of the system. The thigh hoop, covers and slings are separate parts, so you can mix sizes to suit each person.

Here the leg support has Thomas Splint Slings wrapped across the frame to form a soft bed for the leg, and the thigh hoop and hoop cover at the top.

Features

  • Four lengths covering leg lengths from 50cm to 130cm, including Kinetec's 20cm allowance.
  • Magnet connection to the thigh hoop, so you assemble it without tools.
  • Left or right leg: flip the frame over to change sides.
  • Chrome-plated steel for easy cleaning and durability.
  • Modular: each thigh hoop fits each leg support, with one exception (see below).

Kinetec's step-by-step video covers sizing and assembling the Thomas Splint, applying skin traction, and combining skin traction with the splint.

Is the Kinetec Leg Support right for you?

  • Usually suits: emergency, ambulance and ward teams building Kinetec modular Thomas Splints for people of different sizes.
  • Who fits it: Kinetec says leg sizes and shapes all differ, so medical staff should choose the best combination for each person.
  • Not included: the Thigh Hoop, Hoop Covers, Thigh Hoop Foam Covers and Thomas Splint Slings are separate parts of the system.

This frame is for trained staff only. Follow your service's protocol for selection, fitting and use.

Choosing the right size

Kinetec sizes the splint from the uninjured leg.

  1. Measure the inside leg on the uninjured leg, from the groin to the bottom of the heel.
  2. Add 20cm to allow for ankle plantar flexion in the splint and for applying a windlass.
  3. Pick the leg support whose leg length range includes that total. The ranges below already include the 20cm.
  4. Choose the thigh hoop: measure the thigh circumference near the groin, at an oblique angle, and match it to a Thigh Hoop size.
  5. Check the combination: don't use a Size 1 Thigh Hoop with a Size 4 Leg Support, or a Size 4 Thigh Hoop with a Size 1 Leg Support. Every other pairing works.
Size Leg length (incl. 20cm) Kinetec code
Size 1 50 to 70cm 4655005998
Size 2 70 to 90cm 4655006011
Size 3 90 to 110cm 4655006037
Size 4 110 to 130cm 4655006053

Every size works on the left or right leg. Between two sizes? Email us the measurement and we'll check with the supplier.
