A Hoist Sling for Everyday Transfers, Sitting or Lying

The Cobalt General Purpose Universal Sling is a full-body hoist sling for everyday lifts: bed to chair, chair to bed, and lifting someone up from the floor. Choose durable polyester or quick-drying mesh for wet areas, loop or keyhole clip attachments, and a version with or without head support, in four colour-coded sizes from Small to X-Large.

Dispatched from our Australian supplier's NSW warehouse, usually within 2-7 business days.

Why the Right Sling Matters

A hoist is only as comfortable as the sling under the person being lifted. A sling that's too big or too small, or one that doesn't clip onto your hoist, makes every transfer harder for everyone. This sling comes in enough combinations to match the person, the room and the hoist, so carers can get on with the lift.

Features

  • Two fabrics. Durable polyester for everyday use, or quick-drying mesh for bathrooms and wet areas.
  • Loop or keyhole clip attachments. Pick the one your hoist's spreader bar takes.
  • With or without head support. The no-head-support version comes in mesh with loops.
  • Colour-coded binding. Red, yellow, green or blue edging shows the size at a glance.
  • Soft bound edges. Gentler against the skin while the sling is in use.
  • Labels built to last. High-definition woven labels designed not to fade, with 5-year service record and sling audit indicators.
  • Unique serial number on every sling. Handy for tracking and record keeping in care settings.
  • Easy care. Machine washable, flame-retardant fabric with anti-shrink webbing.
  • Safe working load 220kg (Small and Medium) or 300kg (Large and X-Large).

Is the Universal Sling Right for You?

It usually suits:

  • general transfers to and from a sitting or lying position
  • lifting someone up from the floor
  • homes, group homes and aged care settings with a mobile or ceiling hoist

Check with your OT or physio first:

  • whether the person needs head support. That depends on how well they can hold up their head and upper body
  • which size, fabric and attachment to choose. Cobalt says the choice should only be made after a full assessment
  • for anything to do with the person's health or care plan, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider

Good to know before you order:

  • The hoist is not included. This listing is for the sling only.
  • Cobalt says these slings suit most brands of lifting and ceiling hoists. Check whether your hoist takes loops or keyhole clips before you choose.
  • Inspect the sling before every use. If it's damaged, frayed or not in its original condition, don't use it.

Choosing the Right Size

Cobalt sizes this sling by height, hip width and back length. Measure while the person is sitting:

  1. Hip width: measure straight across the hips from left to right, not around them.
  2. Back length, with head support: measure from the top of the head down to the lower back.
  3. Back length, no head support: measure from the base of the neck down to the lower back.
  4. Match those figures and the person's height to the table below. If they fall between two sizes, email us the measurements and we'll check with Cobalt.
Small (red binding)
Height 125-150cm
Hip width (left to right) 42cm
Top of head to lower back 80cm (with head support)
Base of neck to lower back 55cm (no head support)
Safe working load 220kg
Medium (yellow binding)
Height 145-170cm
Hip width (left to right) 48cm
Top of head to lower back 91cm (with head support)
Base of neck to lower back 66cm (no head support)
Safe working load 220kg
Large (green binding)
Height 165-180cm
Hip width (left to right) 52cm
Top of head to lower back 100cm (with head support)
Base of neck to lower back 75cm (no head support)
Safe working load 300kg
X-Large (blue binding)
Height 175-185cm
Hip width (left to right) 68cm
Top of head to lower back 100cm (with head support)
Base of neck to lower back 75cm (no head support)

Choosing the Right Option

  • Polyester or mesh: polyester is the durable everyday choice. Mesh dries quickly, so it suits showering and wet areas.
  • Loop or clip: loops hook over the spreader bar's hooks. Keyhole clips lock onto clip-style spreader bars. Match it to your hoist.
  • With or without head support: head support suits someone who needs help holding up their head. Without it, the sling sits lower on the back.
