Best Hospital Beds for Home

When getting in and out of a regular bed gets hard, a hospital bed can help someone you love stay at home. Our hospital beds for home are electric floorline models. Each home care bed is part of our bedroom aids range, made for independence and dignity.

What Makes a Hospital Bed Different

A hospital bed moves at the press of a button. One hand control changes the height, lifts the backrest and bends the knees. The person using the bed can sit up to read or eat. Carers can raise it to a comfortable working height, so there's less bending. Our guide to types of electric beds compares the options.

Floorline and Low Height Beds

A floorline bed sits close to the floor at its lowest setting. The Floorline 7.5 low height care bed lowers to 75mm at the mattress platform and rises to 660mm. Our king single nursing care bed goes from 150mm up to 680mm. That means a shorter distance to the floor at night and a higher bed for care during the day. When lowering, the Floorline 7.5 pauses at 250mm so you can check underneath is clear.

Positioning and Trendelenburg

All three beds offer Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg. Trendelenburg tilts the whole bed so the head end sits lower than the feet. Reverse Trendelenburg does the opposite. Carers often use the tilt when repositioning someone in bed. The Floorline 7.5 tilts up to 12 degrees, and our nursing care bed up to 14 degrees. Auto contour bends the knees before the backrest rises, so the person is less likely to slide down the mattress.

Choosing a Hospital Bed for Home

Think about the room, the person using the bed and who will be helping. If you'd prefer the look of a regular bed with fewer care features, see our electric beds for elderly. An over bed table makes meals in bed easier too.

Size and Weight Capacity

Our range comes in single and king single sizes. A king single hospital bed gives more room to turn over, so measure your bedroom and doorways first. The Floorline 7.5 is 2275mm long, and 1070mm wide in single or 1230mm in king single. It has a safe working load of 200kg. The nursing care bed is rated to 250kg and has a built-in 19.5cm foot extension for taller people. Side rails are optional extras, so browse our bed rails for elderly if you need them.

Mattress Choice

A hospital bed bends in the middle, so the mattress has to bend with it. The Floorline 7.5 suits a 1980 x 880mm mattress in single, or 1980 x 1050mm in king single. Choose a mattress made for profiling beds. Our electric bed mattresses are a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hospital bed for home cost?

Our hospital beds for home range from $2,640 to $3,624 AUD. Price depends on size, height range and weight capacity.

Can I use my own mattress on a hospital bed?

Sometimes. A regular mattress may be too thick or stiff to bend with the bed. Choose one that fits the platform and is made for adjustable beds.

What is the difference between a hospital bed and a home care bed?

Not much. A home care bed is a hospital bed made for the home, with timber panels and a softer look. Both adjust in height and position.

Can I get a hospital bed funded through NDIS or My Aged Care?

Often, yes. NDIS plans and Support at Home funding may cover a hospital bed, usually after an occupational therapist's assessment. Check with your plan manager or care coordinator first. Our NDIS FAQ explains the process.
