Best Walker Wheelchair Combo
Tired legs shouldn't cut a day out short. A walker wheelchair combo is a walker you push yourself, with a seat that lets a carer push you instead. It sits within our walkers for elderly and walkers with seats ranges, next to our transit wheelchairs.
How a Walker Wheelchair Combo Works
Every model here does two jobs in one frame. Most of the time it's a wheeled walker. When you need a break, it becomes a seat with footrests. That's why you'll also hear it called a wheelchair walker combo, a hybrid walker wheelchair or a 2 in 1 transit chair and walker. Most Australians who choose a walker wheelchair combo want to keep walking on outings, knowing there's a seat when they need one.
Walker Mode
In walker mode you stand inside the frame, hold the handles and walk at your own pace. Lockable brakes hold it still when you stop. The footrests fold up and out of your way.

Chair Mode
When you need a rest, lock the brakes, fold the footrests down and sit with your back against the backrest. A carer then pushes from behind. It's handy for the walk back to the car or a long wait at the shops.

Choosing a 2-in-1 Walker and Transit Chair
A Walker First, a Chair for Short Trips
We want to be upfront about what these are. A walker wheelchair combo is a walker first. Chair mode is for short trips and rests, with a carer pushing. It isn't a replacement for a wheelchair. The light frame and small wheels are made for short pushes on smooth ground, not long distances or sitting all day. If someone needs pushing for most of an outing, a transit wheelchair is the better fit. Not sure which suits? Speak with your healthcare provider.
What to Check Before You Buy
- Weight capacity: pick a safe working load above the user's weight. Ratings differ between models.
- Handle height: the handles should sit around wrist height when the user stands tall.
- Seat height: the user should be able to sit down and stand up without straining.
- Folded size: measure your car boot if it'll travel with you.
- The carer: check the push handles suit whoever will be pushing.
Each product page lists the exact specs. Our best seller is the 2 in 1 walker wheelchair with a padded seat and backrest. If space is tight at home, the compact walker wheelchair is worth a look. For more help comparing frames, read our rollator walker buyer's guide.
Walker Wheelchair Combo FAQs
What is a walker wheelchair combo called?
It goes by a few names: 2-in-1 walker wheelchair, rollator transit chair, hybrid walker wheelchair or walker transport chair. They all mean a walker with a seat and footrests that a carer can push.
Can I use a walker wheelchair combo as a wheelchair all the time?
No. It's a walker first. Use chair mode for short trips or rests, with a carer pushing. For regular pushing over longer distances, choose a transit wheelchair.
How do you turn the walker into a chair?
Lock the brakes, check the backrest is in place, fold the footrests down, then sit. The carer releases the brakes and pushes. Steps vary a little, so follow the instructions for your model.
Is a walker wheelchair combo right for me?
It's designed for people who walk with a walker but tire on longer outings, and who have someone to push them when needed. Speak with your healthcare provider about whether it suits you.
