What Length Do I Need?
This is a step ramp. It lays over one or more steps, a kerb, or a raised doorway, and the length you need depends entirely on how high you are climbing.
Every size covers the same 75cm width and carries the same 363kg. The only thing length changes is how steep the climb feels, and that is the single thing that decides whether this ramp works for you. Too short for the step and the ramp becomes a slope nobody can safely push up or ride down.
Two gradients matter, and both come from the Australian Standard for access and mobility, AS 1428.1:
- 1:14 (gentle). The standard's gradient for any rise over 190mm, and the only one that suits someone propelling a manual wheelchair themselves or using the ramp unaccompanied. Every 14cm of ramp length buys 1cm of step height.
- 1:10 (steeper, with a helper). The standard's maximum for a step ramp covering a rise between 35mm and 190mm. This suits a powered wheelchair, a mobility scooter, a walker, or a manual chair with someone assisting.
If you are choosing between two lengths, always take the longer one. A ramp that is gentler than you strictly need costs you a little more floor space and nothing else.

A Note on Storage and Transport
The centre fold runs along the length of the ramp, not across it. Folded, the ramp is about half its open width and still its full length, and the two halves can be separated to make loading easier. The 61cm and 91cm sizes travel easily in a car boot. The 152cm and 183cm sizes are best suited to a fixed location at home, or to a van or wagon with the seats down. If you need a ramp that collapses short enough for a small boot, ask us about the multi-fold version, which folds twice.
How to Measure Before You Buy
- Measure the total rise. Rest a tape measure on the ground at the bottom and measure straight up to the surface you want to reach. Measure the whole climb in one go, not each step separately. Three steps of 15cm is a 45cm rise, not a 15cm one.
- Check the landing at the top. You need a flat area at least as deep as your wheelchair or scooter is long, so you can come off the ramp and stop before opening a door.
- Measure the run-out space at the bottom. Pace out the ramp length from the base of the step and check nothing is in the way: a car, a garden bed, a fence, a path that turns sharply.
- Measure your device width. Measure across the widest point, usually the wheels or the armrests. The ramp is 75cm wide overall, and the 4cm raised side edges sit inside that, so leave yourself room to steer.
- Check the ground at both ends. Soft lawn, loose gravel, or a driveway that slopes away from the step will change how the ramp sits. It needs firm, level footing top and bottom.

For customers living in rural or remote areas, we offer a discounted shipping rate. For example, if a wheelchair typically costs $80 to ship to Sydney but $120 to ship to Perth, shipping to Sydney would be free, while the customer in Perth would pay a discounted rate of $40. Please note that this extra charge is non-refundable, even if the customer decides to return the product.

Delivery Responsibilities

Portable Folding Wheelchair Ramp for Safe, Independent Access

Our Portable Folding Wheelchair Ramp is a strong, lightweight bridge over the step, with a punch-plate surface that holds grip in the wet and folds down for storage when you are done.
Lightweight Aluminium Ramp for Easy Portability
This disabled access ramp is built so one person can carry it, set it up, and put it away without help. High-strength aluminium keeps it strong and rust-resistant, so it can live outdoors by the back step without seizing or staining. It suits a manual wheelchair, a powered chair, a mobility scooter, or a walker, at home and away from it.
- Punch-Plate Surface: The perforated deck grips wheels and shoes in wet and dry weather and lets rain drain straight through, so the surface does not become the risk on a rainy morning.
- Centre-Fold Design: A central hinge runs the length of the ramp, so it folds in half down the middle to roughly 38cm wide for storage against a wall or behind a door.

What Length Do I Need?
This is a step ramp. It lays over one or more steps, a kerb, or a raised doorway, and the length you need depends entirely on how high you are climbing.
Every size covers the same 75cm width and carries the same 363kg. The only thing length changes is how steep the climb feels, and that is the single thing that decides whether this ramp works for you. Too short for the step and the ramp becomes a slope nobody can safely push up or ride down.
Two gradients matter, and both come from the Australian Standard for access and mobility, AS 1428.1:
- 1:14 (gentle). The standard's gradient for any rise over 190mm, and the only one that suits someone propelling a manual wheelchair themselves or using the ramp unaccompanied. Every 14cm of ramp length buys 1cm of step height.
- 1:10 (steeper, with a helper). The standard's maximum for a step ramp covering a rise between 35mm and 190mm. This suits a powered wheelchair, a mobility scooter, a walker, or a manual chair with someone assisting.
If you are choosing between two lengths, always take the longer one. A ramp that is gentler than you strictly need costs you a little more floor space and nothing else.
If your total rise is more than 19cm, no ramp on this page will do the job safely. You need a modular or semi-permanent ramp instead. Contact us and we will point you to one.
A Note on Storage and Transport
The centre fold runs along the length of the ramp, not across it. Folded, the ramp is about half its open width and still its full length, and the two halves can be separated to make loading easier. The 61cm and 91cm sizes travel easily in a car boot. The 152cm and 183cm sizes are best suited to a fixed location at home, or to a van or wagon with the seats down. If you need a ramp that collapses short enough for a small boot, ask us about the multi-fold version, which folds twice.
How to Measure Before You Buy
- Measure the total rise. Rest a tape measure on the ground at the bottom and measure straight up to the surface you want to reach. Measure the whole climb in one go, not each step separately. Three steps of 15cm is a 45cm rise, not a 15cm one.
- Check the landing at the top. You need a flat area at least as deep as your wheelchair or scooter is long, so you can come off the ramp and stop before opening a door.
- Measure the run-out space at the bottom. Pace out the ramp length from the base of the step and check nothing is in the way: a car, a garden bed, a fence, a path that turns sharply.
- Measure your device width. Measure across the widest point, usually the wheels or the armrests. The ramp is 75cm wide overall, and the 4cm raised side edges sit inside that, so leave yourself room to steer.
- Check the ground at both ends. Soft lawn, loose gravel, or a driveway that slopes away from the step will change how the ramp sits. It needs firm, level footing top and bottom.
Once you have your total rise, find it in the table below and pick the shortest ramp that covers it in the column matching how the ramp will be used. If you fall between two sizes, size up.

If you live in a Metro or Inner Regional suburb in NSW, VIC, ACT, SA, or QLD, shipping will be FREE. However, if you live outside these areas, shipping costs will be calculated at checkout.
Surcharge for Rural and Remote Locations
For customers living in rural or remote areas, we offer a discounted shipping rate. For example, if a wheelchair typically costs $80 to ship to Sydney but $120 to ship to Perth, shipping to Sydney would be free, while the customer in Perth would pay a discounted rate of $40. Please note that this extra charge is non-refundable, even if the customer decides to return the product.

After placing your order, you will receive an order confirmation. This means that we have authorized your credit card or PayPal for the purchase and are preparing your order for shipment.

Delivery Responsibilities
If couriers are unable to successfully deliver your order due to the inability to leave it in a safe place or requiring a signature, it is the customer’s responsibility to pick up the package at the courier's depot or post office. If the item is returned to us and needs to be reshipped, the customer will be required to pay additional shipping fees for the reshipment.
Christmas Holiday Period
Please note that our warehouses are typically closed during the last week of December and the first week of January each year. Orders placed during this period may not be shipped until our warehouses reopen in early January.

Australian owned and operated by David Thiu, Mobility Shop Direct was founded in 2019 to help all Australians find the right Mobility Aids to maintain their Mobility and Independence.
Whilst working as a Locum Pharmacist throughout Australia, David noticed that many of his patients were frustrated by how hard it was to find mobility aids and by the lack of information available. Most Pharmacies either did not stock any Mobility Aids, or those that did only had a limited range available, with many staff members insufficiently trained. Even when shopping online, most of the sites that did sell mobility aids were difficult to navigate, did not provide enough educational material to assist with the buying process, and did not have a wide enough selection.
To fill this gap in the market, David spent hundreds of hours researching, writing buying guides, and building this brand new site that you're on now.
